Cimarron Metropolitan District

Have a Fun (and Safe) Halloween!

Halloween is an exciting time for children and families! Even though the holiday falls on a weeknight this year, we still expect that lots of families will choose to trick-or-treat on Halloween night (Tuesday, October 31st). Here are a few tips to help ensure that everyone has a safe and fun night, whether you're heading out or not.

If you're staying home...

   - Keep your porch light on if you want to have trick-or-treaters visit your house.
   - Place a teal pumpkin outside your door if you plan to offer non-food treats instead of candy. (Visit the Teal Pumpkin Project for more information.)

If you're trick-or-treating...

   - Plan a route in advance and wear comfortable shoes.
   - Only visit houses with the porch light on.
   - Don't go alone. Younger kids should be with an adult, and older kids should go with a group.
   - Stay on sidewalks and look both ways before crossing the street at cross-walks.
   - Stay well lit. Bring flashlights, glow sticks, reflective gear, or bright clothing.
   - Check all candy at home before eating it.

If you're planning to drive...

   - Slow down and be especially alert in the neighborhoods.
   - Anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic, even in the streets. Excited children may move unpredictably.
   - Turn your headlights on a little earlier than usual for extra visibility.
   - Enter and exit driveways and alleys especially carefully.

Whatever your plans, we hope you have a very fun and safe Halloween!
